As a botanist, I have surveyed and studied native plants all throughout Southern Oregon, collected germplasm for restoration projects, produced herbarium vouchers, and digitized herbarium records.
Picture
As a science educator, I have worked with learners aged 6 - 60+ in both outdoor and classroom environments. This photo is from an Ecology Camp that I helped teach at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Picture
More recently I have spent much of my time in natural products laboratories studying the chemistry of plants, with a focus on Cannabis sativa.

I have helped develop, staff, and manage multiple analytical laboratories and have served nearly every role in a lab from analyst to technologist to QA manager and laboratory director.

My Music

One of my passions in life is music, and I have been writing and playing music most of my life. Here are some examples of my musical work.
"In the Beginning..." is an album that I contributed to around 2008 or 2009 while performing with my old high school rock band, Johnny and the Appleseeds. I play lead guitar on all songs of this album except "Searching".

I wrote the songs "Kaleidoscope Window" and "Free Falling From Folly" when I was 15 or 16 years old.
Part of a series of compositions inspired by my family that I have been working on writing.
I had the opportunity to write, perform and record some instrumental acoustic guitar pieces for this science education video series in 2015. My music is heard in the introduction as well as throughout the video.

Multimedia Production

I both produce and host the Curious About Cannabis Podcast, the Isn't Life Curious? podcast and have also contributed as a narrator to other audio and video content projects.

Here is an example of my voice and audio production work:

Here are examples of videos that I have edited:

Illustrations and Graphic Design

Here are some examples of my illustration and graphic design work:

Toadstool's Treasures Video Game

In 2013 I built a demo of a side-scrolling video game about mycology that involves taking a character through a world of pesky nematodes, ants, and the dreaded picking hand. Maintain your health and humidity level while pursuing the evil Squirrel. All of the sprites and backgrounds were illustrated by me, and I composed and recorded the game's lo-fi music. Some day, with the right resources, I would like to build this into a full game...

The Free Expression Exposition
Music and Arts Festival

In 2006/2007 I organized a charity music and arts festival in my home town called the Free Expression Exposition - a festival celebrating art for art's sake. I coordinated with artists and musicians from across the state of Mississippi who all donated their time to play for free, while also coordinating with the city government and other stakeholders to take care of the necessary logistics. The entire project was done with no budget, and all of the proceeds were donated to the Mississippi Arts Commission.

This is, still to this day, one of my proudest accomplishments.
